GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Although he didn't participate at Friday Night Lights, James Hearns (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln) still had a purpose inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.Observing some of the top recruits taking part in Florida's showcase, was fun even if he would have preferred to go through it himself. But Hearns wasn't just standing around.
With uncommitted targets around, Hearns wanted his voice to resonate.

GDANSK, Poland (AP) ? It wasn't supposed to be this way.
Mitt Romney outraged Palestinians on Monday, telling Jewish donors that their culture is part of what has allowed them to be more economically successful than the Palestinians. That fresh controversy on his visit to Israel came just days after insulting the British on what was intended as a feel-good visit to the Olympics in London.
Whether or not the trip changes votes back home, the effect hasn't seemed to be what Romney's presidential campaign had in mind.
His first steps onto the world stage as President Barack Obama's Republican challenger were carefully crafted to avoid political risk. He visited countries that are staunch U.S. allies, limited questions from the media and arranged made-for-TV appearances at symbolic venues in London and Jerusalem. It was all intended to demonstrate he was ready to handle foreign affairs smoothly and lead during dangerous times.
Instead, as he made his final stop of a three-nation tour in Poland late Monday, Republicans and Democrats alike were shaking their heads in the U.S. Though Republicans said they saw no lasting harm, Democrats raised questions about Romney's ability to handle delicate topics with sensitivity on foreign soil, even under the friendliest conditions.
Romney's latest trouble stemmed from a speech he gave to Jewish donors in which he suggested that their culture was part of what has allowed them to be more economically successful than the Palestinians. Kind words for Israel are standard for many American politicians, but Palestinian leaders suggested his specific comments were racist and out of touch with the realities of the Middle East.
"Because it's billed as a layup ? it's billed as something that should be simple ? perhaps he let his guard down," said Hogan Gidley, a senior aide under former Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum. "You say, 'Gosh, this guy is so scripted, the campaign is so disciplined, so smart, how could this happen?'" Still, he doubted that Romney would suffer any long-term effects among voters who are still undecided three months before the election.
Predictably, Obama's campaign was more critical, with senior strategist David Axelrod saying on Twitter: "Is there anything about Romney's Rolling Ruckus that would inspire confidence in his ability to lead US foreign policy?"
It's unclear whether voters in the U.S. are paying attention to Romney's stumbles, especially as concerns about the nation's economy dominate most Americans' concerns.
"I'd say it has the same impact as a stubbed toe," said Iowa Republican John Stineman, a marketing consultant in Des Moines. "People are still focused on the economy."
And Debra Hayes, a Republican-leaning independent from Denver, said Romney's overseas comments have no impact on how she'll vote.
"I'm interested only in the economy - jobs, and the prices of things," said Hayes, who is undecided. "We need to stand with Israel. And our president needs to show leadership overseas. But things are going downhill at home, and that's what matters."
And Romney drew his share of favorable media coverage back home. A speech on Israel policy, delivered at dusk against the scenic backdrop of Jerusalem's Old City, drew praise for its setting and delivery. He and his wife, Ann, appeared relaxed and engaged in an interview on CNN, where Ann Romney described her husband as loving and emotionally engaged.
Still, missteps in the past week have fueled opponents' contentions that the former businessman and Massachusetts governor is out of touch with the nation and the world he hopes to lead.
As the trip got under way, Romney caused a stir in Britain by questioning whether officials there were fully prepared to host the Olympic Games. The dispute overshadowed his efforts to highlight his personal experience leading the Salt Lake City Games a decade ago. Instead, Romney was widely assailed by the London media and criticized by British leaders.
Then on his first day in Israel, Romney distanced himself from an adviser's suggestion that he would "respect" a decision by Israel to launch military action to prevent Iran from achieving nuclear weapons capability.
On Monday at a fundraiser, opened to the media after the campaign first said it would be closed, Romney shared a sentiment he sometimes talks about on the campaign trail in the United States and repeats in his book, "No Apology." But his decision to highlight cultural differences in a region where such differences have helped fuel violence for generations prompted new questions about his diplomatic skills ? and enraged Palestinian leaders.
Comparing economic output per capita in Israel and "just across the areas managed by the Palestinian Authority," he declared that "you notice such a dramatically stark difference in economic vitality." He was speaking to about 40 wealthy donors at the King David Hotel, which is within sight of the Palestinian territory on the West Bank.
He said some economic histories have theorized that "culture makes all the difference."
"And as I come here and I look out over this city and consider the accomplishments of the people of this nation, I recognize the power of at least culture and a few other things," Romney said, citing an innovative business climate, the Jewish history of thriving in difficult circumstances and the "hand of providence." He said similar disparity exists between other neighboring countries, including Mexico and the United States.
Palestinian leaders quickly objected.
"It seems to me this man lacks information, knowledge, vision and understanding of this region and its people," said Saeb Erekat, a senior aide to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. "It is a racist statement, and this man doesn't realize that the Palestinian economy cannot reach its potential because there is an Israeli occupation."
"This will cause a lot of damage to American interests," he said.
Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul said the comments "were grossly mischaracterized."
The campaign added that Romney's comparison of countries that are close to each other and have wide income disparities ? the U.S. and Mexico, Chile and Ecuador ? shows his comments were broader than just the comparison between Israel and the Palestinians.
At the White House, spokesman Josh Earnest said, "One of the challenges of being an actor on the international stage, particularly when you're traveling to such a sensitive part of the world, is that your comments are very closely scrutinized for meaning, for nuance, for motivation."
Earnest sidestepped questions about whether Obama agreed with Romney's comments about culture, saying only that Obama believed economic issues are among the matters that would need to be addressed by the Israelis and Palestinians during any peace talks.
Romney flew on to Poland for two days of visits with leaders.
He met with the Cold War-era Solidarity leader Lech Walesa in Gdansk, earning his endorsement: "I wish you to be successful because the success is needed to the United States, of course, but to Europe as well and to the rest of the world, too. So, Governor Romney, get your success, be successful," Walesa said through a translator.
Walesa suggested Romney's leadership was needed to restore America's position in the world.
Romney is to meet with Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski on Tuesday before delivering his final foreign policy speech of the trip.
The Romney campaign hopes Walesa's backing will influence Catholics and labor union members in the U.S. But Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Ohio, told reporters Monday that the Polish visit "is nothing more than a superficial diversion and a desperate attempt to pander to Polish Americans and Catholics across our country."
Romney's visit to Poland was not without controversy.
Campaign officials said the visit with Walesa came at his invitation, but the current leadership of Solidarity distanced itself from the event and issued a statement critical of Romney. Solidarity characterized Romney as being hostile to unions and against labor rights. It emphasized that it had no role in organizing Romney's visit and expressed support for American labor organizations.

Majesco Entertainment recently held a press event to show off their new Kinect title - NBA Baller Beats - ahead of its release this fall. The event was well attended by media and the company brought a considerable amount of basketball talent to help show off the game. Two-time NBA Champion Kenny Smith was in attendance, as well as Curtis Smith and WNBA player Essence Carson. In addition to their rousing celebrity endorsements, the event also gave yours truly the chance to get hands-on with the game, which utilises Kinect technology to track the movements of an actual basketball as well as a gamer?s skeleton.?
?
?
As the event began we were all led to a gymnasium containing several basketball courts equipped with three demo stations set-up with Kinect to show off the game. Journalists and guests in attendance were seated on the bleachers where we had an up-front view of the proceedings. Majesco Co-founder and CEO, Jesse Sutton, took to the court to welcome us and share his excitement about NBA Baller Beats while shedding some light on how the game came into existence. To bring this game to retail, Majesco partnered with both the NBA and sports equipment maker Spalding, who provides the official NBA regulation basketball that comes packaged with the game. In addition to the basketball stars in attendance, Majesco also partnered with Brooklyn Nets star point guard Deron Williams, who graces the cover of the game. Deron Williams couldn?t be in attendance, as he is part of the US Basketball Olympic team and is busy getting ready for the start of the games in London, but he was kind enough to share his thoughts on the game via a pre-recorded video.?After the video, Jesse came back out to talk about the game some more and then introduced former pro baller Kenny Smith to provide a live demonstration of the game for us. Smith is a naturally charismatic speaker, bolstered by his experience as a televised analyst for TNT?s ?Inside the NBA?. After he took the mic, Smith explained how excited he was when Majesco contacted him about their development of NBA Baller Beats. He recalled basketball training camps he used to host where he would coach aspiring players to improve their ball handling by dribbling to a rhythm and rapping along. The apparent similarities between NBA Baller Beats and his own teaching method is what attracted him to the game, he explained.?
?
?Two-time NBA Champion Kenny Smith introduces NBA Baller Beats.
Kenny Smith then passed the ball to Curtis Smith to demonstrate more of the game while he provided commentary. Curtis, being one of the driving forces behind this game?s creation, played along to Missy Elliot?s ?Get Ur Freak On?, which is reportedly the hardest track in the game, on the highest difficulty no less. The song lived up to its reputation as Curtis immediately had to dribble with great speed and concentration as the game threw multiple special moves at him to perform in quick succession. He seemed to be in the zone until he suddenly lost control of the ball which rolled several yards away and paused the game until he could fetch it. Curtis completed the track with a 4.5 star rating after losing possession of the ball at least once more.
Finally, Curtis was joined by Essence and another young basketball phenomenon named Jashaun Agosto to show off the game?s multiplayer. Baller Beats offers multiplayer for up to eight people, competing in a pass-and-play style competition. For this final demonstration the group played to ?Party Rock? by LMFAO. Kenny Smith again provided commentary as the three ballers rotated turns, playing along to different sections of the song. There was a grace period of several seconds between each player?s turn to allow the other player time to clear out of the way. All three contestants performed admirably and Curtis eventually came out on top, though all three lost control of the ball during their routine meaning Kenny Smith was the only one to maintain possession during his entire playtime. I guess that?s why he is the two-time champ.
?
Aspiring young basketball player shows off his dribbling skills and the accuracy of Kinect sensor.
Once the game was all rearing to go I took control of the rock (that?s street slang for basketball, for all you squares out there) and began playing. I possess neither great athletic ability nor a strong sense of rhythm so, needless to say, I was a bit nervous. Once I started dribbling along to the onscreen cues, however, the game began to gel with me. The Kinect sensor was amazingly responsive, though the game (on its easiest setting) was forgiving, acknowledging dribbles that were a split-second or two off of the beat.?
The game usually has you dribble on one side at a time and will call for a crossover dribble to get you to dribble with your other hand. In my experience, it?s better to look at the screen rather than at the ball, as you would if you were actually playing offense in a real game of basketball, though the temptation to focus on the ball is definitely there. I lost control of the ball on more than one occasion, enough to make me miss out on a few beats but not enough to pause the game (mostly when I had to dribble with my non-dominant hand). My advice to correct this is to stay low. Bending your knees greatly increases you control over the ball and really makes you feel like you're in the game. I finished my demo with a gentlemanly 2.5 stars in case you were wondering, breaking into a serious sweat about halfway through.

The stream of visual notes is easy follow and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The background resembled a carnival setting decked out in the colors and logos of the selected team, which was the LA Lakers during my demo. LONDON ? The last time Mark Tewksbury looked just like that ? face bright with a ----eating grin all over it, huge head apparently close to combustion ? he?d won a gold medal.
That was on a grand day in the 100-metre backstroke at Barcelona in 1992. He was all of 24.
Now two decades older and in his first Olympics as the chef de mission for Team Canada, he was at the Aquatics Centre here Sunday when synchro divers Emilie Heymans and Jennifer Abel won a bronze for Canada?s first medal of these Games.
And in the Quebec pair the ecstatic Tewksbury saw a little bit of history being made, a tantalizing glimpse of the future and a huge psychological boost for the rest of the squad.
?Do you see me?? he asked. ?I?m electrified!?
He sure looked all lit up.
?It?s Emilie and Jennifer and amazingly, it?s also the story of our team,? he said.
====
SEE THE TOP IMAGES FROM DAY 2 OF THE OLYMPICS.
====
?We?ve got a four-time medallist [Heymans, the first female diver in the world to win medals at four consecutive Games] with a first-time medallist [Abel, just 20 and very much at the start of her career]. It?s what I hoped would happen: It?s a young team coming together with veterans, and the energy that can be created can be magical.?
A couple of things make the medal special ? that Abel is the third partner with whom Heymans has made it to the podium, which speaks to her adaptability and generosity as an athlete; that it?s a brilliant cap (though Heymans, and Abel, still have the individual version of the three-metre springboard to do and may not be finished yet) to a remarkable career for the Saint-Lambert native, and that the women won it only on the second day of the Games.
In recent years ? going back as far as Tewksbury?s gold, which came on Day 6, through to Beijing, where no Canadian got to the podium until a day later than that ? the medals have come slowly for Canadian athletes, with the bulk being won in the second week of the Games.
Left alone it may have remained merely a frustrating irritant for athletes, but for journalists, who collectively tend to pick any scab before it even forms, the wait meant that on or about Day 4 or 5, they drag out the old ?Canada chokes? stories ? and that, if nothing else, would genuinely ratchet up the pressure on those whose competitions were later in the schedule.
?Take the pressure off?? one of the writers asked Tewksbury.
?Takes the pressure from you guys off the team,? he snorted in reply.
He?s a chef de mission who has been a world champion, a motivational speaker, and a bingo caller, as the late satirical Canadian rag used to call TV folks. He knows from all sides what happens at the planet?s biggest stage.
Most nights at the athletes? village, the plan is for the Canadians to have an informal gathering to take note of the day?s events, but Sunday, Tewksbury said, would be a little bigger than that.
The bronze is obviously the big news, but, as he pointed out, Sunday was a good day for other Canadians, too.
The women?s gymnastics team qualified for the final for the first time in a non-boycott Olympics ? meaning when all the best athletes are actually there. As Elizabeth Black said afterwards, perhaps by way of explanation for the top-8 finish, ?I love the team so much more than individual [events]. The team is 100 per cent what we do.?
Out at the rowing basin near Windsor Castle, the women?s eights blew out of the starting blocks to win their heat. Other athletes got through qualifying rounds to the semifinals or set national records. As Tewksbury put it, ?There?s lots of good news ? it?s just a different narrative? and it can be team-altering.
He compared the agony of the Heymans-Abel win ? there are five dives ? to a ?shootout for 38 minutes.?
As for Heymans? accomplishment, he put it in magnificent perspective. ?In a sport like diving, the precision and being able to deliver when it counts, not just in one race ? that?s also amazing ? but in an event that has five dives, you?ve got to be really, really focused and not blow it at any point.?
The Canadian team has a number of three-and-four-time Olympians, including the multi-talented Clara Hughes, one of only four athletes to have won medals at both Summer and Winter Games.
She has another event this week, the time trial, and it?s her best one, giving her another shot at becoming only the second athlete in Olympic history to win gold in both Games. Eighty years ago, American Edward Eagan won gold in the four-man bobsleigh to match the one he won 12 years before as a boxer. Once every 80 years or so a stunner like Hughes comes around: That sounds about right.
On a day that turned rainy and cool (but, as the Brits repeat with the same dubious optimism that sees them swimming in the sea at Blackpool in May, with every chance of ?growing brighter?), Hughes finished 32nd in the road race.
?It was epic,? she said afterwards. ?It was awesome. There were so many people on the course. We were wondering if people would come and watch the women?s race, so it was amazing to have so much support in the pouring rain.?
And that?s what she sounds like on a tough day: With old pros like that in the house, what?s a youngster to learn but that electrification is a good thing?

TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) ? U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta acknowledged Monday that increasingly stiff international sanctions have yet to compel Iran to give up its nuclear ambitions. But he argued that more pressure eventually would lead Iran to "do what's right."
Iran's disputed nuclear program, which Tehran contends is only for peaceful purposes, is a prominent backdrop to Panetta's five-day tour of the Middle East and North Africa. On Wednesday he'll be in Israel, whose leaders have said they are contemplating a military attack on Iran to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons, a step they view as a threat to Israel's very existence.
The Obama administration wants Israel to give sanctions and diplomacy more time to steer Iran off its nuclear course, although Panetta repeated the administration's standard line that "all options" are on the table in the event that non-military pressure does not work.
"These sanctions are having a serious impact in terms of the economy in Iran," he told reporters during a visit to the North Africa American Military Cemetery, where 2,841 U.S. servicemen killed in the North Africa campaign against Nazi Germany in 1942-1943 are buried.
"And while the results of that may not be obvious at the moment, the fact is that they have expressed a willingness to negotiate (with the U.S., Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China) and they continue to seem interested in trying to find a diplomatic solution," he said.
Those on-again, off-again negotiations have not come close to resolving a problem that U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has cast as one of the biggest failures of the Obama administration. Romney was in Israel this week showing support for Israel and asserting that if he were president Iran would never get the atomic bomb.
Panetta, who has declined to comment on Romney's visit to Israel, stuck to his argument that the administration's current approach is the right one.
"What we all need to do is to continue the pressure on Iran, economically and diplomatically ... to negotiate and to ultimately do what's right in joining the international family," he added.
After meeting in Tunis with the country's new Islamist leaders, Panetta was headed to Egypt for talks with its new Islamist president, Mohammed Morsi, in Cairo, as well as Egyptian military leader Field Marshal Mohammed Hussein Tantawi.
In his remarks at the U.S. military cemetery, Panetta said Washington plans to promote closer counterterrorism cooperation with Tunisia's new leaders. Panetta's press secretary, George Little, said the Pentagon chief also raised the idea of more U.S. assistance in securing Tunisia's border with Libya and in Tunisian maritime security. Little said specifics were not discussed.
Little said the U.S. is worried about the spread of al-Qaida's influence in North Africa, while adding that "the sense is that the threat here (in Tunisia) is not as great as elsewhere" in the region.
Tunisia was the launching pad for the wave of revolt that swept through the Arab world in 2011. It had one of the most repressive governments in the region. The uprising began in December 2010 when a fruit vendor, Mohammed Bouazizi, set himself on fire in the town of Sidi Bouzid to protest his lack of economic opportunity and the disrespect of the police.
The transition here from dictatorship to democracy has been smoother than in neighboring countries like Libya and Egypt, with no power-hungry military or armed militias to stifle the progress. But there is an increasingly bold ultraconservative Muslim minority who want to turn Tunisia into a strict Islamic state.

South Korean police have arrested two hackers who stole personal data of 8.7 million customers of the nation's second-biggest mobile operator, the company said.
KT said the hackers -- formally arrested on Sunday -- had stolen data such as customers' names, phone numbers and residential registration numbers for five months since February and sold the information to telemarketing firms.
"The number of affected people account for nearly a half of about 17 million customers of ours," a KT spokesman told AFP, adding the company had alerted police on July 13 after detecting traces of hacking attacks.
Yonhap news agency, citing police, said the duo -- including a former veteran programmer at a local IT company -- had earned at least 1 billion won (about $880,000) by selling the stolen data.
Seven other people were also booked for buying the leaked data for telemarketing purposes, Yonhap said.
"We deeply bow our head in apology for having your precious personal information leaked... we'll try our best to make such things never happen again," KT said in a statement to customers.
Hacking attacks on major companies aimed to gain access to the personal data of their customers is a frequent occurence in South Korea, one of the world's most-wired nations.
Seoul authorities said in July last year hackers using an Internet address registered in China had gained access to South Korean major websites including web portal Nate.com and may have stolen the private data of 35 million users.
In November 2011, Seoul's top games developer Nexon saw personal information of 13 million users of its popular online game MapleStory stolen by hackers.
In March 2010, authorities launched a probe into the security systems of major retailer Shinsegae and 24 other companies after private data on 20 million customers was leaked.

Coming up on the fourth year anniversary of my best friend?s death, I look back on what his life and death meant to me.? I was twenty years old and in the middle of college.? Moving from Salinas to Fresno, not a lot of kids could relate but he did.? Living in a household of sisters, I bonded to him like no one else, as if he were my brother.
I?ll never forget the night he died.? Just the night before he called to ask if I wanted to go to the movies but I had other plans with my girlfriend at the time.? We ended that phone call thinking we?d see each other soon.? We could always find fun things to do.? He was kind of a wild guy who always knew how to find a good time, but without fail, he would come home every night.
?Living in a household of sisters, I bonded to him like no one else, as if he were my brother.?
The one night he didn?t come home I found out before anyone in his family.? His parents were just getting back from vacation when I got a call from a mutual friend of ours.? He saw my best friend get in a bad car accident but he wasn?t sure who got hurt.? Without knowing exactly what was going on, I called his family to let them know something had happened.? I knew deep down it wasn?t good when no one could reach him.? I waited with his brother, who felt like my own brother as well, until their parents got home.? And when they did, we waited.? We waited and waited until we finally found out what we were dreading the most.
I never thought my best friend would die so young.? I never thought I?d have to be the one to tell his whole family.? I?ll never forget the scream of pure agony that escaped from his little brother when he found out.? There was the initial shock of knowing we?d never see him again followed by the pain of fully accepting that cold fact.? I could easily call this pain physically overwhelming and all of this happened three days before the start of a new school semester.

For a while I tried to ignore the pain of losing my best friend.? I was taught not to cry, to show emotion, or give any sign of weakness even during hard times?it was part of my culture.? I threw myself into school, went to parties, and did anything I could to distract myself, but after a couple months of this I was starting to take it out on the wrong people.? My girlfriend supported me through all of it but all I could give back was anger and frustration. ?I know now that I was being a jerk because I didn?t know of any other way to handle it.
Him passing away was a turning point in my life.? I was depressed, no doubt, but it also gave me the motivation to work hard, to go through school with new focus, and I even got straight A?s from then on.? If he was alive, I think I?d be in a similar place but his death gave my life new meaning, new ambition.? We were both big dreamers and it was so hard losing him but it also evolved to be one of the most positive changes in my life.? I ended up stronger because of it and am more capable of handling stress now.? When something like that happens so unexpectedly, it?s difficult to grasp at first what?s been done.? At first I didn?t do anything because I couldn?t handle it and my relationships suffered.? But I?m stronger now and have a new outlook on life. ?Everything that happened has led me to who I am today.

To help with your goals, join a 5k or mini marathon in your area. This will provide you with the motivation to train, and will help to increase your fitness. Engage in both cardio and toning exercises to prepare for this type of event, which is very long and strenuous on your body.
When working out, use this order: dumbbells first, then barbells, then machines. This is because your small stabilizing muscles tire more quickly than your large muscles. Dumbbells and barbells require more use of these smaller stabilizing muscles, you should use them first and move onto machines, which rely more on your larger muscles instead.
Standing arm curls are a great exercise for your arm muscles. To get a full range of muscle workout, flex while lifting. At the end of each repetition, straighten your arms completely by flexing your triceps. Flexing will ensure your muscles are worked through the entire range of motion.
In order to achieve your fitness goals you should add resistance exercises to your workout regime. Types of resistance training include free weights, the exercise ball, exercise bands and workout machines. These types of exercises benefit your bones, boost your metabolism and increase fat loss. No fitness program is complete without resistance exercises.
If your destination is less than 2 miles away, always choose to walk, run or take your bike. By consistently making this healthy choice, you give yourself the benefit of free mini-workouts multiple times every day that will benefit your heart, lungs, muscles, and general sense of well-being and fitness.
If the idea of spending thirty minutes on a treadmill leaves you with cold feet, try hula hooping your way to physical fitness. As you are rotating your hips, bend at the knees slightly. This will keep the hoop aloft, burn extra calories, and target problem areas like love handles.
While fitness should push our bodies, it is important though that you not push yourself too hard. By trying to exceed your body?s capabilities, you are not doing yourself any favors; in fact, you may be causing yourself injury. For instance, when stretching, you should push yourself enough that you feel tension in the muscle, but not so far that you feel pain.
Check out hiring a personal trainer to help you with your workouts. A trainer can push you past the walls you have set up for yourself, sending you down a path of new and better workouts. A trainer is incredibly helpful in helping you determine the right exercises for your goals. If the price is a barrier, try signing up for small group training sessions.
Exercise your hamstrings with extended ankle leg curls. You can do these while either standing or sitting down, but make sure that you extend your ankle in the entire process. This elongates and stretches the hamstrings, as well as exercises the rest of your legs. This is especially beneficial to a runner.
Staying fit isn?t just a way to look good at the beach. It?s an important part of a healthy lifestyle. Taking the time to exercise will make you feel as great as you look. Keep the tips in this article in mind, as you work to increase your level of fitness. They should make your workouts a lot easier.

Ideas to Get Kids Journaling!
When you start digitally scrapping your travels, or Vacation days. You might want to include some journaling from your children.
A scrapbooking page with some journaling can really make it an extra special treasure.
So why not get the kids involve in journaling about their travel, or vacation experiences?
First, if you and your children are headed out on a vacation you might want to give them a notebook to keep their thoughts in as you travel.
Then, these thoughts can be used later on in your digital scrapbooking pages. You can either scan the handwritten journaling notes and add them into the digital scrapbooking page, or you can take the journaling notes and type the text right into your scrap project.
Whether you scan your child?s handwritten notes or type the text into the scrapbooking project it will turn an ordinary scrap page into a extra special one!
So, encouraging kids to keep a travel journal or a travel diary along the way which will be used later for creating a family vacation scrapbook when you get home.
Here are some writing prompts you can give to your children and ask them to answer on their trip, or when they are looking at the photos afterwards ? if you didn?t do it on the trip.
Kid Travel & Vacation Journaling Writing Prompts:
Take look at these questions and see if you can answer them on your trip or vacation:
Where did you go on your trip?
Who went with you?
How did you travel ? by car, plane, train, or other?
Where did you stay? How did it look? How did it smell?
What was your favorite family attraction you visited?
What was an amazing thing you saw on your travels?
What was boring? Why? Did anyone in your family like it? Why?
Did the local people speak a different language or accent?
What was your favorite vacation food?
Did you try any unusual food?
Was the weather as you would have expected it? Why?
How did things on your trip look the same or different from your neighborhood?
What different plants did you see on your trip?
What was the scenery like?
Did you see any unusual animals?
Did the buildings look different? Why?
What were the stores and shops like? Did they take different money?
Did you see any souvenirs that were typical of your family vacation destination?
Did you bring home any souvenirs? Why did you pick these?
How were the local kids different from at home?
How were the local kids the same as at home?
What games did they play?
Did you make any new friends?
Did you swap addresses/emails?
How can you keep in contact with your new friends?
Did you learn anything you did not know?
Did you go on a special outing?
Would you want to go back there?
What do you wish you had known before you went on your family vacation? What would you tell someone going there?
Did you see anything historical? What was it about?
What things did you see on your trip that might be part of History in the future?
What was your favorite time of day? Why?
What season did you take your trip?
What was your favorite book you read on vacation?
Did you have some special toys that you took on your trip?
Did you listen to music on your trip? What? How did it make you feel?
What is the best thing that happened on your family vacation?
What is the worst thing that happened on your trip?
Write about your family and how they liked the trip, like who enjoyed what.
Write a story about your trip and illustrate it.
Also you might want to encourage your children write everything down in a notebook, adding drawings alone with writing, and also collecting mementoes along the way that you can scan when you get home, and turn into embellishments that you can add to your digital scrapbooking pages!
Also you might want to give your kids a digital camera to take pictures to illustrate some of the things they are writing about. Vacation Photos are an ideal way to illustrate your family vacation in your vacation scrapbook.
Tip: Print out these travel prompts we mentioned above, and then glue them to the front of your child kid travel notebook to help them look for things they might write about.
Special: For a limited time get a PDF copy of these travel prompts here! Then print it out and have you child write, write, and write.
So, your child doesn?t like to write? Have them try keeping an art journal about their journey or a travel sketchbook of your family vacation highlights! They can draw about the things on the list above too! Again, scan art when you get home and add them to your family digital scrapbooking album.
Hopefully this will get your children journaling about their trips, and vacations!
Enjoy all those special moments you spend together!
Happy scrapping and journaling too!

LONDON (AP) ? Mitt Romney struggled Friday to stem political fallout at home after insulting Britain's handling of the London Games. The stumble at least briefly pitted the Republican presidential candidate against America's strongest ally while limiting his ability to capitalize on more troubling U.S. economic news.
At the same time, President Barack Obama used his office to try to take advantage of the Republican's missteps abroad, praising Britain for its Olympics preparations one day and sending money to Israel the next ? just as Romney prepared to visit that nation.
The confluence of events ? just as the world focused on London's opening ceremonies ? confounded Republicans and tickled Democrats. People in both parties wondered aloud how the former Massachusetts governor could have complicated the opening leg of a three-nation tour carefully crafted to highlight his diplomatic strengths and personal Olympic experience.
"You have to shake your head," GOP strategist Karl Rove said Friday on Fox News.
It was unclear just how much damage Romney, who had hoped to burnish his limited foreign policy credentials, did with an American electorate that hasn't fully tuned into the race. But he certainly stoked talk in political circles in Washington, if not elsewhere, of political tone-deafness, and he raised questions about his readiness to stand on the world stage.
He was certain to draw more attention Friday night when he attended the opening ceremonies.
Publicly at least, Romney's campaign shrugged it all off as having little impact on American voters and moved aggressively to change the subject. His aides hastily organized a conference call with reporters to discuss his schedule in Jerusalem and preview a speech there two days away.
British press reports laced with lingering resentment targeting Romney's initial comment ? that problems with Olympic preparations were "disconcerting" ? made it difficult for him to turn the page.
A day after London Mayor Boris Johnson assailed Romney by name in a rally before tens of thousands, Britain's Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt, the cabinet minister in charge of the Olympics, lashed out at him.
"When we have the opening ceremony tonight and we tell the world that eight of the world's top 10 sports were either invented or codified in Britain ? and only two in America ? I hope Mr. Romney is watching," he said Friday.
Seeking to quiet the uproar in its second full day, Romney declared on NBC: "It looks to me like London is ready." He also observed, "It is hard to put on the games in a major metropolitan area." Asked about the stir, he said, "I'm absolutely convinced that the people here are ready for the games, and in just a few moments, all the things the politicians say will be swept away" by excitement over the competition.
Romney's trip comes just over 100 days before an election that is expected to be close and, for now at least, is dominated by the economy's sluggish recovery.
Underscoring it, the Commerce Department released new numbers Friday showing that the U.S. economic growth slowed to an annual rate of 1.5 percent from April through June, as Americans cut back on spending.
But, because he was overseas, Romney was in no position to try to leverage the latest figures for political gain. He's spent his entire campaign doing that to press his argument that Obama has had long enough to spark the economy and has failed.
Romney was keeping to his promise not to criticize Obama directly while on foreign soil. Instead, he dispatched a series of allies to lambaste the president.
"Despite a string of bad economic reports, President Obama refuses to change course," said Ohio Sen. Rob Portman, a potential Romney running mate.
As Romney was dealing with the Olympics slip, the White House on Thursday emphasized that Obama was on Britain's side, a suggestion that Romney was not.
Said press secretary Jay Carney: "In keeping with our special relationship, the president also made it clear that he has the utmost confidence in our close friend and ally, the United Kingdom, as they finalize preparations to host the London Olympics."
By Friday, Obama, himself, sought to upstage his Republican opponent.
One day before Romney's visit to Israel, Obama signed legislation increasing military and civilian ties between the U.S. and Israel. And he authorized the release of an additional $70 million in military aid for Israel, a previously announced move that appeared timed to Romney's trip.
While Obama sometimes signs bills in private, the White House invited reporters and photographers into the Oval Office ? and made sure the cameras captured both the signing and the president flanked by Jewish-American leaders.
Obama never mentioned Romney or the election in his brief remarks. But he did use the opportunity to trumpet what he called his administration's "unshakable commitment to Israel." He added: "I have made it a top priority for my administration to deepen cooperation with Israel across a whole spectrum of security issues ? intelligence, military, technology."
The new money is aimed at helping Israel expand production of a short-range rocket defense system, called Iron Drone, that can block fire from nearby Gaza and other places.
Obama's move underscored the advantages that come with running as an incumbent: He has the power to authorize tangible assistance to Israel, while Romney can only make promises.
Obama made his own minor slip during the signing, first saying he was authorizing $70 million, then changing the sum to $70 billion even though the lower figure was correct.
Seeking to counter Romney's appearance at the Games, Obama's campaign also rolled out a television advertisement for American audiences during the opening ceremonies featuring the president promoting his middle-class economic agenda. It was a way for Obama to guarantee himself a presence during the event that Romney was attending. First Lady Michelle Obama is attending Olympic events in London.
Romney, for his part, is to leave London on Saturday. His efforts to highlight his leadership during the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City were lost.
Even as he sought to strike a cautious stance Friday, Romney raised eyebrows anew when he referred to looking out of the "back side" of 10 Downing Street, Cameron's residence, to see the beach volleyball stadium. The term "back side" is the common local term for derriere.

(Reuters) - Auto parts supplier Dana Holding Corp
However, the Ohio-based company lowered its full-year forecast of sales to $7.5 billion from $7.6 billion and its adjusted earnings per share forecast to $1.94 from $2.01 due to the impact of foreign currency exchange and a softening in its business outside of North America.
In 2011, Dana's revenue was $7.6 billion.
Dana's business is led by drivetrain technologies, sealing systems, thermal-management products and off-highway transmissions.
A quarter of Dana's revenue in 2011 was derived from Europe, where auto industry demand is at lows not seen in nearly two decades. And the company said that currency exchange rates negatively impacted profit, as did slower auto demand in Brazil.
Excluding one-time items, Dana's earnings were 56 cents per share, beating the 50 cents per share forecast by analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Dana's net income was $86 million, or 53 cents per share, compared with $68 million, or 41 cents per share, a year before.
Sales for the quarter were $1.95 billion, near year-ago net sales of $1.93 billion.
Chief Executive Officer Roger J. Wood said in a press statement second-quarter profit can be linked to "our ongoing focus on lean operations," as well as the company reacting quickly to dynamic market conditions.
Dana also lowered its guidance for earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for 2012 to $820 million to $840 million from previous guidance of $845 million to $865 million.
Dana in 2011 derived 41 percent of its revenue from supplying light-vehicle production where its key customers are Ford Motor Co
Major customers in Dana's heavy vehicle business, which accounted for 39 percent of last year's revenue, included PACCAR Inc
