Bowling great Don Carter dies at 85

MIAMI (AP) ? Bowling great Don Carter has died at 85.

The Professional Bowlers Association said Friday that Carter died at his home in Miami on Thursday night. He recently was hospitalized with pneumonia complicated by emphysema.

Carter was bowling's original superstar. He became his sport's most recognizable name when bowling was a fixture on TV. Carter became a leading force in the formation of the PBA in 1958.

Carter had an unorthodox bowling style, featuring a bent elbow and a deep knee bend to almost push the ball down the lane.

He was voted Bowler of the Year six times, served as the PBA's first president and became a charter member of the PBA Hall of Fame in 1975.

Dollar General plans vague for northern California

And what about Northern California? Stay tuned is the message from the Tennessee-based retailer.

The Business Journal reported last summer that Dollar General was starting to make offers on sites in the Sacramento region. At that time, the retailer wouldn?t provide specific information regarding its expansion into California.

Now Dollar General (NYSE: DG) says it plans to open 50 stores in Southern and Central California in the fiscal year that starts in February. The company, which has more than 9,500 stores, will create 1,300 jobs in that part of the state.

?More hiring is expected as Dollar General expands in California,? according to a vague news release.

So what about Northern California? Any details for us? Not yet, company spokeswoman Tawn Earnest said.

Stores average 7,500 square feet.

Is 'Work It' worst TV show ever?

It's hard to remember a new TV show that earned such universally horrible reviews as ABC's "Work It," which premiered last night.

The sitcom focuses on two unemployed men who dress up like women to find jobs. Stars Lee Standish and Amaury Nolasco may have to try that trick soon, because we can't believe this show will stick around long. Here are a few of the best (worst) quotes about the show.

Groin-thwacking pain
"It?s not just that 'Work It' is poorly written, broadly acted and apparently produced without any shame, it?s that any number of people had a chance to say no to the groin-thwack against standards that is this series, but they refused."? --Hollywood Reporter

Bring back The Gap Girls
